It seems logical that if you are in a library looking for a book on Nathaniel Hawthorne, you would look under "H."
Poor Jean. She can't even figure that out (one wonders how she used a phone book back then).
However, a friendly school librarian is there to help, and introduce her to the wonderful world of the Dewey Decimal System.
The film may be useful, but is pretty drab.

Always great to see a Coronet film I've never seen.
Jean, high school student, apparently stumbles into the library for the first time, and doesn't know how to find books. Librarian slowly shows the steps Jean needs to succeed in Librarianism.
A bit dumb, but lovely to see antiquated library ways!

How to use a card catalog to find a book in the library. Not much else.
I think I'd have liked to have been a female librarian (with good teeth, a big pair, legs, and looks)in the mid twentieth century. Lots of stacks to carry out that "tending to men's needs" thing [that I bet went on], yet still go home to a faithful (unsuspecting) hubby.
The film is otherwise quite boring - but of historical interest if nothing else. [Anybody know Mr Kowalski, U of M Library Science, circa 1970?)
